Garage Door Questions We Get Every Day
Straight answers from NJ Garage Doors, serving North Jersey since 2003.
How much does it cost to fix a garage door in New Jersey?
It depends on what is broken. We give a firm price before any work starts, after the technician inspects the door, and the estimate is free. Springs, cables, rollers and openers are each priced by the part and the labor.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Estimates for repairs and new doors are free.
Can you come today?
Usually, yes. We run trucks across Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties and offer same-day service. For emergencies we answer 24/7 and respond within 12 hours.
Should I replace one spring or both?
If your door has two torsion springs and one breaks, we recommend replacing both. They were installed together, have the same number of cycles on them, and the second one usually fails soon after the first.
How long do garage door springs last?
Standard springs are rated around 10,000 cycles, which is roughly seven to ten years for a door used a few times a day. We install springs rated for about 10,000 cycles and can quote higher-cycle springs on request.
What warranty do you offer?
Residential repairs and installations carry a 2-year parts and labor warranty from NJ Garage Doors, in addition to the manufacturer's warranty on the door or opener.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Wisetack. You can apply from your phone at the time of the estimate.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NJ Garage Doors LLC is a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor, license 13VH10153900, and carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance.
Do you do commercial doors?
Yes. Sectional and rolling steel doors, dock levelers, high speed doors, fire doors and commercial operators, with 24/7 emergency service and quarterly maintenance plans for commercial properties.
What brands do you install?
We are an authorized dealer for Clopay, C.H.I., LiftMaster, Wayne Dalton, Amarr and others, and we service every brand.
Where are you located?
Showroom in Carlstadt and an office in Woodcliff Lake, with trucks based across North Jersey. We serve Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Morris counties and nearby Rockland County, NY.
My door opens a few inches and stops. What is wrong?
Most often a broken torsion spring. The opener senses the extra weight and stops to protect itself. Do not keep running the opener; call us and we will replace the spring, usually the same day.
