What counts as an emergency
- The door is stuck open and the garage cannot be secured.
- The door is stuck closed with a vehicle inside that you need.
- A spring has snapped and the door has slammed shut or will not lift.
- The door has come off its track and is hanging crooked or jammed.
- A cable has broken and one side has dropped.
- The door was struck by a vehicle.
- A commercial door is down and it is stopping deliveries, work or access.
What can usually wait until morning
We would rather tell you this than have you pay for after-hours work you did not need. A door that closes but is noisy, a remote that has stopped working, a keypad that needs reprogramming, a bent bottom seal, a sensor that needs realigning — these are all things that can be booked as a normal appointment. After-hours calls are billed at a higher rate than scheduled daytime work, because a technician is being called out at night, so it is worth knowing which situation you are in before you commit to one.

What to do while you wait
- Do not try to force a door with a broken spring. Without the spring, the door is its full dead weight — commonly 150 to 400 pounds — and there is nothing holding it up if it slips.
- Do not cut or unwind a cable or spring. They are under load even when the door is down.
- Keep people and cars out from under the door. If it is hanging crooked or off track, treat the whole opening as unsafe.
- Do not keep pressing the opener button. On a door that is jammed or off track, running the opener again usually turns a repair into a bigger one.
- If the garage is open and cannot be secured, move anything valuable and lock the door between the garage and the house.

What we usually find on an emergency call
The overwhelming majority of after-hours calls come down to one of four things. A broken spring is the most common by a distance, and it is the one people most often mistake for a dead opener. A snapped cable is next, and it usually shows up as one side of the door dropping. A door off its track is third, often after being struck or after a roller has failed. Fourth is the opener itself — a stripped gear, a burnt-out motor or a failed logic board.
Springs and cables are stocked on the truck in common sizes, so a night call is frequently a same-visit fix rather than a return trip. A door that has been hit by a car, or a discontinued panel, is more likely to need a follow-up once parts are matched. We will tell you which one you are looking at while we are there.
